With the love and support of his wife and three children, Paul evaluates and treats patients over 30 hours a week at Ullucci Sports Medicine & Physical Therapy, Inc while running the business and working on two Doctoral Degrees at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions while teaching at Bridgewater State College. Paul founded the Ullucci Sports Medicine Scholarship Fund in 2006 to assist athletic training students from throughout New England attend school.
Paul is currently the NATA District 1 Treasurer, NATAPAC District 1 board member and is on the Rhode Island Athletic Training Licensing Board. He currently serves on the Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award for the NATA's Honors and Awards Committee and is the Chairman of the Rhode Island Athletic Trainers Associations Government Affairs Committee and has served on the NATA’s Clinical, Industrial Corporate Committee for 6 years representing District 1 and was the Chairman of the Athletic Trainers of Massachusetts Reimbursement and Clinical Athletic Training Committees for 6 years. He has also served locally as the Clinical Representative for ATOM and as the Massachusetts Reimbursement Representative to the NATA.
While enrolled in Northeastern University’s Physical Therapy program Paul received a number of regional and national academic and clinical excellency awards, including the prestigious Mary McMillan Scholarship award in 1991. Upon graduation, Paul began working full time in an outpatient clinic in Rhode Island while working nights and weekends at Brown University. He became a Certified Athletic Trainer in 1993. In 1994, Paul became the Operations Supervisor for Rebound Sports Medicine in Taunton, MA. Paul grew the program from a staff of 5 certified athletic trainers to 12. During his 8 years at Rebound, Paul serviced Rebound’s contracts in 5 regional high school divisions as well as Massasoit Community College and Stonehill University. In addition to his full time job at Rebound Paul continued to work a minimum of 20 hours per week at Brown and taught at Newbury College during the summer
In 1997, Paul became the first Sports Clinical Specialist in the state of Rhode Island, and began work on his first book “Clinical Sports Medicine”. He has been to Europe twice with the combined Brown and Dartmouth track and field teams and has acted as the medical director for a number of high profile skating and track and field competitions including the “East Coast Track and Field Invitational” in Bethesda, MD. Paul became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist in 2000.
In 2001, Paul left Rebound and opened Ullucci Sports Medicine & Physical Therapy in East Providence, RI while continuing to work part time at Brown. The business has expanded from a traditional physical therapy sports medicine clinic to include game and practice coverage of high school, club and professional sports teams. Video analysis services are also provided for runners, golfers and tennis players with comprehensive sports specific training available. Paul also provides orthotics for the athletes in his local area as well as those attending Tufts University and Bridgewater State College. Since its inception in 2001, Ullucci Sports Medicine & Physical Therapy has doubled in size and added 5 additional staff members and is currently looking for another Certified Athletic Trainer.
In 1994, Paul began speaking professionally to Certified Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapists and other medical professionals on various topics including the treatment of patellofemoral dysfunction, plantar fasciitis, orthotic fabrication and shoulder instability. Since then he has presented over 21 professional lectures including two at previous EATA symposia. In 2004, Paul acted as the technical advisor for a pilot sports medicine educational DVD set, producing 3 educational videos on patellar strapping, aquatic therapy and manual traction of the cervical spine.
